The International Communications Award Cristoforo Colombo, established by the City of Genoa in 1954, in cooperation with the Istituto Internazionale delle Comunicazioni (IIC), is given each year to individuals and organizations having contributed, with a discovery, initiative or research, either from the technical and scientific point of view or the social and human one, to the progress and the diffusion of communications as a mean of economic and social development, friendship and cooperation among peoples.
The Award, indivisible, consists of a Golden Medal and an amount of Euro 11.000,00.
The Award is yearly assigned in one of the following fields:
- Maritime Transportation
- Telecommunications
- Land Transportation
- Air Transportation
- Space Communications
- Communications Theory
- Information Diffusion
Deadline: may 31,2009
The Award will be given by the Mayor of Genoa, on October 12, 2009, during the solemn ceremony of the Columbus Day Celebration.
